The pastor who shows up.

Russell Oglesby was born and raised in Clemson. He never left the area. Now he's running for the council seat that has overlooked the Central & Six Mile communities for too long.

About the candidate

Who is Russell Oglesby?

He has now lived near Central for over 40 years. That is not a campaign talking point. Pickens County and the people in it are his life.

Russell Oglesby was born in Anderson, SC and raised in the Abel Community of Clemson — and he never left. He and his wife raised three daughters, including two nieces they loved as their own, all of whom graduated from Pickens and Oconee County schools. He cared for both of his parents through their final years.

He spent 40 years combined at Duke Energy's Oconee Nuclear Station. His hard work led him up the ranks: Technician, Maintenance Planner, Supervisor, Shift Manager, Mod Execution Manager, Site Work Process Director, Work Window Manager, and Special Projects Manager all before retiring as Sr. Business Consultant, Sarbanes-Oxley Nuclear Administrator. His commitment to growth shows.

He is a mentor in the Pickens County School District, works with the Shaw Center of Clemson on low-income housing repairs, and is a past board member of Pickens County Habitat for Humanity.

Roots: Not Résumé

40+ years in Pickens County. He speaks from inside the community, not above it.

Problem Solver: Promise Deliverer

From Nuclear Plant Technician to Sr. Business Consultant, from the pulpit to a pothole — he will show up, roll up his sleeves, and will find the solution.

Family Man: Public Servant

Service isn't new to him. It is his calling.

What Russell is fighting for

Three issues. Real stakes.
Personal commitment.

Every number below has a name and a street attached in District 2 —these aren’t abstract issues happening to faceless people. These are real issues happening to our neighbors and family members.

01
Mile Marker 01 · Housing

Low-income housing & the right to stay

53.1% rent burdened

Central and Six Mile are among the fastest-growing small cities in South Carolina. That growth has been profitable for developers and devastating for long-time residents — through annexation decisions, zoning approvals, and development policy that prioritizes profit over people, while the county “studies” the problem and families get displaced.

"They call it development. We call it displacement. The families who built these communities deserve the right to stay in them."

Russell’s Plan: Fight for anti-displacement protections and demand real community input before any development approval. Picken’s residents need renter protection ordinances that give tenants real rights and real recourse when faced with uncertainty.

02
Mile Marker 02 · Jobs

Unemployment in Pickens County

39th of 46 counties 5.1% · Dec 2025 a 1.4 year over year increase

Pickens County ranks 39th out of 46 counties in South Carolina, with unemployment climbing 1.4 percentage points over the past year. Counties with a wider range of industries and job opportunities see lower unemployment — District 2 needs both.

Russell's Plan: Broaden the job market through training, transportation expansion, and incentives that bring real industry to Central and Six Mile. Real growth focuses on developing people first.

03
Mile Marker 03 · Roads

Road maintenance you can count on

The condition of the roads in Pickens County determines safe passage for parents, kids, and neighbors getting to work, school, and appointments. Potholes cause unnecessary vehicle damage, frequent tire replacement, and accidents — and taxes were assessed specifically to keep our roads safe.

Russell’s Plan: Hold the county to the maintenance schedule that your taxes are already supposed to be funding. Transparent spending is common sense.
